Edibles have come a long way since the days of homemade pot brownies. Phew! Thanks to the legal market and rigorous testing standards, you can expect a consistent experience with each tasty gummy, chocolate confection, or pop-it-in-your-mouth mint bought from a licensed dispensary.
Whether you had a bad experience with edibles in the past or you’re trying one for the first time, cutting them in half—or fourths!—is always a great way to start experimenting. Keep these tips in your back pocket when you’re shopping for weed edibles, and I’d love to hear what works best for you! ❤️ Ellen
TIPS FROM THIS WEEK’S EPISODE
1. WHAT SHOULD I BUY? |
Edibles are measured in milligrams (mg) and the amount of THC and CBD will be listed on the package. Every state’s packaging is a bit different, so ask the budtenders at the dispensary for help. Intimidated by weed shopping? Hear women all across the country share how they navigate buying legal weed. |
2. HOW MUCH SHOULD I TAKE? |
Cannabis ratios work like this: the first number is the amount of CBD and the second is THC. Start with ratios that range from 1:1 to 20:1. Our CBD episode explains why this non-intoxicating part of the plant is helping so many women love weed. |
3. CUT YOUR EDIBLE IN HALF |
Start with a low dose of 2 to 2.5mg of THC. Depending on the state, edibles under 5mg may be hard to find. Try cutting your edible in half, or even into quarters. Bonus = more for later. |
4. BE PATIENT |
Edibles can take 1 to 2 hours to feel, and the effects will last for 4 to 8 hours. Please wait the full two hours before you take another! |
5. FEEL TOO HIGH? |
CBD oil tincture under your tongue for 30-60 seconds. You’ll feel less high and more like yourself in about 15 minutes. |
