One of the biggest misconceptions about shopping for legal weed is thinking that you need to know a lot about cannabis before you go. While you can’t forget your government issued ID and it will make it easier if you bring cash, as more states legalize, visiting a dispensary is a lot like a regular shopping experience. This series is dedicated to providing you with a support system of other women who have been in your shoes.

Hello, How to Do the Pot listeners. This is Annie and Amanda from High Ladies Podcast.

Amanda (01:39):

Hey, everybody. We were so excited to be asked to share our first time legal buying experiences with all of you. I guess here we go.

Annie (01:48):

You want to go first, or should I go first?

Amanda (01:49):

I can do this. I bought my first legal weed in Barrie, Ontario at the One Plant store in January of 2020. Actually I think it was January 20th, and I will never, ever, ever forget this day because I had only ever bought black market weed, but I had an interview at this One Plant location. I walked into the wrong part of the store and I was just like, unbeknownst to me, in the middle of a pot shop and I felt really weird. I was like, okay, obviously I have to buy something so that I can talk to an employee and find out where I’m supposed to be. What did I buy? It was a three and a half of LBS Moonbeam, and LBS Leafs by Snoop. I think that that’s probably why I have this sudden obsession with Snoop.

Annie (02:36):

That’s awesome.

Amanda (02:37):

That’s my story.

Annie (02:38):

Was it any good?

Amanda (02:39):

It was fabulous. It’s still one that I love.

Annie (02:41):

Great.

Amanda (02:42):

How about you?

Annie (02:43):

Mine’s a little bit longer ago. My first time ever buying legal cannabis was in Amsterdam in 1999.

Amanda (02:51):

Oh yeah!

Annie (02:51):

I was 19. My girlfriend and I were doing the European tour and we thought, oh, Amsterdam’s going to be great. And yes, it was great. There was pot everywhere, drugs everywhere. The thing that was also everywhere were American boys. We actually went all over Amsterdam, bought all sorts of different pot, got on a bus and went to Edam, which is a tiny little town where they make cheese because it was just too many American boys. It was too much. It was over the top. But it was really exciting being able to go into a store and buy cannabis.

Amanda (03:30):

You were like almost, what was that, 19 years before legalization.

Annie (03:35):

I’m aging myself.

Amanda (03:37):

You were ahead of your time.

Annie (03:38):

Went and sat in the field full of sheep and ate cheese and chocolate and got stoned off our trees. I believe there was mushrooms involved as well.

Amanda (03:46):

Oh my goodness! That definitely tops my story.
