Welcome back to How to Do the Pot, a podcast de-mystifying cannabis for women. I’m Ellen Scanlon. On these short episodes, we share women’s stories about the first time they bought legal weed. Today, Carrie Mapes and Patty Pappas, the co-founders of Hello Again, a California based cannabis company with products for menopause, tell us about their first trip to a dispensary.

Patty Pappas (00:33):

It was the weekend of July 4th of 2018 and the last of our children had gone off to college and we were officially empty nesters and we decided to take that opportunity, since cannabis had just become legal, to go check out a dispensary. So I think we drove across town we probably drove past 25 dispensaries, but somehow we targeted one and it was The Pottery in LA, and we were a little nervous. We got there and there was a guard at the door, we thought, “Uh-oh, what’s going to happen?” And we walked in, and the minute we walked in, all of our anxiety just washed away, it was so lovely, and the staff that worked there couldn’t have been nicer and more patient with us.

Carrie Mapes (01:13):

It was a beautiful boutique-y kind of space, they were cashmere blankets and candles for sale, but there was also a wall of stuff that we didn’t know what it was or how to use it, and we engaged with the bud tender and asked a hundred different questions.

Patty Pappas (01:28):

Three years ago, there weren’t as many products out there that we were comfortable using as there are now, but there was enough to get started and take some home and start learning about all the incredible powers of the cannabis plant.

Carrie Mapes (01:41):

Patty was more brave than I was, I bought tea.

Patty Pappas (01:46):

We got there.

Carrie Mapes (01:48):

I bought beautiful Kikoko tea and something for my dog, and Patty bought some things too, and three years later we have our own cannabis product on the shelves, so-

Patty Pappas (02:00):

So that was a great first visit.

Carrie Mapes (02:02):

Definitely, always follow your curiosity.
