Christie Tarleton (00:06):

The times that I’ve used Strawberry Cough, I feel like it was one of those herbs that just made you laugh your ass off. I love the ones where you smoke it with your friends and you just get into a stream of internal jokes and you just can’t stop laughing so hard.

Ellen Scanlon (00:26):

Welcome to How To Do The Pot, a podcast helping you feel confident about cannabis. I’m your host, Ellen Scanlon.

(00:38):

You just heard from Christie Tarleton, the Tennessee-based co-founder of cannabis brand Canvast Supply Company. Have you listened to our Essential Strains series yet? It’s a growing list of strains that I think everyone should have in their stash, not because you need all of them, but because I want you to have two or three go-tos that you love. This will really help guide you when you walk into a dispensary, so you won’t feel intimidated or overwhelmed by the sheer number of strains available. Even just telling the budtender the name of a strain that you liked can be a hack for them to help you find more strains that you’ll love. We’ve created a special strains playlist on Spotify so you can follow them all, and the full list is available on our website, dothepot.com.

(02:29):

Now let me introduce you to the newest essential strain for your collection and consumption. A strain of style, class, and gas. It’s Strawberry Cough. Strawberry Cough is a sweet delight that will get you high without feeling edgy. This strain is a cult favorite and very popular with weed enthusiasts. It’s known for its fruity strawberry flavor and its unique effects, which help fight sadness and uplift you out of your worries. Strawberry Cough is the result of a happy accident. In the early 2000s, a breeder in Connecticut named Kyle Kushman received a clone that was a cross of two strains, Haze and Strawberry Fields. The story goes that he thought nothing of the clone until it started to smell like summer strawberries. He shared the strain with friends who loved it, and eventually it made its way to the West Coast. The rest, as they say, is history.

(03:46):

The strain name is not only for its iconic smell. It’s also for this strain’s ability to make you cough. The Strawberry Cough heads welcome the cough because they believe it elevates the high. While there’s some evidence that the mechanics of coughing can increase the sensation of feeling high, the cough itself doesn’t actually get you higher. Are you interested in learning more about this phenomenon, or maybe you already know more about it? Please reach out, because I’d love to learn more. So let the strawberry smell of this energizing strain take you away to sweet memories of a summer night because Strawberry Cough is a strain that brings on feelings of euphoria and happiness.

(04:45):

(05:51):

What about the high? Strawberry Cough is known for its uplifting effects. Lovers of this strain report almost a head rush that boosts creativity, focus and will often make you feel social. It’s even been known to induce fits of laughter, and I say yes to more laughing. Christie Tarleton, whom you heard from at the beginning of the episode, agrees.

Christie Tarleton (06:21):

The times that I’ve used Strawberry Cough, I feel like it was one of those herbs that just made you laugh your ass off. I love the ones where you smoke it with your friends and you just get into a stream of internal jokes and you just can’t stop laughing so hard. You’re snorting. It’s messy. There’s that. Then I also feel like Strawberry Cough has done a really good job of inducing a creative state for me. There’s some cultivars that I feel like I always describe them as book writers, novel writers. They’re ones that make you think internally, think a little bit deeper. But Strawberry Cough has always been a really good zinger for igniting some creativity and having more intentional conversations.

Ellen Scanlon (07:08):

With the joyous effects of Strawberry Cough, medical patients look to it for help easing depression and anxiety. The strain can give you a lift if you’re feeling heavy. Uplifting strains like strawberry cough sometimes give me almost a physical sense of being lighter. Letting go of your troubles feels a little easier. This strain is one of a kind in its ability to bring up the mood and reduce stress. So if you’re feeling low or looking for a strain to decompress and feel better after a long day, Strawberry Cough could be a winner. Strawberry Cough can also help with motivation. Not feeling social enough for that barbecue? Perhaps a little puff of the Strawberry Cough. Need an energy boost for your workout or have a creative project you want to get started on? Strawberry Cough is great for giving you the right kind of energy to conquer a variety of pursuits. Jackie Cahan, the Illinois-based managing partner of Peregrade Ventures, shares why she loves Strawberry Cough.

Jackie Cahan (08:28):

I find smoking Strawberry Cough to be particularly enjoyable in social settings. It’s not something I would typically choose to do when I’m alone and just looking to relax at home. At a party or gathering environment, it becomes truly amazing. The effects of Strawberry Cough make me feel social and engaging.

Ellen Scanlon (08:46):

So now you know what it does. How high will you get? You can get extremely high. Strawberry Cough is a potent strain. It will not take a lot to feel the effects. I recommend starting with a small puff and wait 15-20 minutes to see how you feel. The goal is to find the right balance for what feels best for you.

(09:22):

While these descriptions are typically how you’ll feel after consuming Strawberry Cough, please remember, cannabis is a plant. Plants grown in different places, in different states, on different farms. Indoor versus outdoor will all make it a little bit different, and the same goes for you because cannabis affects everyone differently. I really recommend starting slowly until you know how a particular strain makes you feel and really understand how you want to feel. When you’re learning something new, you don’t give up after the first challenge, do you? Don’t give up. You’ve got this. So try a new strain, listen to your body, and have fun.

(10:12):

If Strawberry Cough sounds familiar, it’s because you heard about it in episode 177, all about comedy podcasts and the strains that pair with them.

(10:26):
