Lisa Snyder, Co-Founder of Tokeativity

Lisa Snyder, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Tokeativity, reflects on the sigh of relief she took when she bought weed legally for the first time. This feeling is a familiar one for those of us who began consuming cannabis long before it was legalized — one that also celebrates a step towards shattering the stigma. Tune in to hear Lisa’s short but sweet 1st time story.

Welcome to How to Do The Pot, a podcast demystifying cannabis for women. I’m Ellen Scanlon. A big misconception about shopping for legal weed is thinking that you need to know a lot about cannabis before you go. While you can’t forget your government issued ID and it will make it easier if you bring cash, as more states legalized visiting a dispensary is a lot like a regular shopping experience.

Ellen Scanlon (00:33):

This series is dedicated to providing you with a support system of other women who have been in your shoes. If you scroll through our feed and look for first time buying legal weed stories, you’ll hear from some really inspiring women about their first time buying legal cannabis. These women offer a lot of helpful tips and really thoughtful observations, but they’re not without a few mishaps and laughs along the way too. We hope these stories help you feel supported, less alone and a little lighthearted when you decide to make your first cannabis shopping trip.

Ellen Scanlon (01:10):

Lisa Snyder (01:34):

The first time that I bought weed legally was October 1st, 2015, the first day officially of adult use legalization in the state of Oregon. I went to my local dispensary, Oregon House of Herbs and stood in line. Actually saw a fellow friend of ours while we were standing in line and really just took in the fact that I was going to be buying weed for the first time legally.

Lisa Snyder (02:12):

It felt very relieving, honestly, because for so long we’ve been hiding. All of us have been hiding our cannabis use and trying to not feel like a criminal. I remember feeling for the first time, I am not a criminal and even just thinking about that puts a smile on my face.
