Welcome back to How To Do The Pot, a podcast de-mystifying cannabis for women. I’m Ellen Scanlon. On these short episodes, we share women’s stories about the first time they bought legal weed. I hope they bring a little fun and a new perspective into your week. Raeven Duckett is the California based co-founder of Community Gardens. Community Gardens was the first equity team to receive a license from the state of California for adult use sales of cannabis based on their participation in the revolutionary city of Oakland, Cannabis Equity Program.
Raeven Duckett (00:45):
The first time that I purchased legal weed was back when California still had a thriving medical market. I had to first get my medical recommendation, and that was a whole situation. I had to go into this doctor’s office that was in Berkeley, California. I went in and I saw this doctor and he asked me all these questions like do you have headaches, and I was like, “Yeah, sure,” and like, do you have anxiety, and I was like, “Of course.” He asked me a few other qualifying questions and eventually he issued me the cannabis license. I went with my cousin, of course I didn’t go alone, and after we both got our medical license we ended up going right next door to the dispensary that was located right next door to the doctor.
Raeven Duckett (01:41):
Their selection was a little sub-par, I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t really excited by what they had. Honestly, I don’t even remember what I bought because I know I was buying a bunch of weed before. For my first legal experience with weed, it was pretty underwhelming but after that I ended up going to a lot of different medical/legal places and ended up finding really cool products, but that first time left a little bit to be desired, I’m not going to lie.
