This podcast discusses cannabis and is intended for audiences 21 and over.
Mario Guzman (00:06):
It’s why women like it, it’s why people like to have it before they have sex, it’s why people like to have it before they go to the gym, it’s why people like to smoke it before they do anything.
Ellen Scanlon (00:15):
Welcome to How To Do The Pot, a podcast helping you feel confident about cannabis for health, wellbeing, and for fun. I’m Ellen Scanlon.
(00:29):
You just heard from Mario Guzman, the California-based founder of Sherbinskis, talking about a very special strain that he created one lucky day in San Francisco. Today, we are adding to How To Do The Pot’s list of essential strains. Have you listened to the Essential Strain series yet? It’s a growing list of strains that I think everyone should have in their stash, not because you need them all, but because I want you to have two or three go-tos that you love. This will really help guide you when you walk into a dispensary, so you don’t feel intimidated or overwhelmed by the sheer number of strains available. Even just telling a budtender the name of a strain that you like can be a hack for them to help you find more strains that you will love. So, save the list, which is on our website, dothepot.com. And we created a special Spotify playlist that I’ll link to as well.
(01:39):
Now, let me introduce you to the newest essential strain for your stash. A legendary feel-good strain called Gelato. Just like the ice cream, the Gelato strain goes really well with so many activities. Whether it’s hanging out with friends, unwinding with a movie night, or feeling sexier in the bedroom, Gelato will be a fun addition to your good time. Today’s episode is everything you need to know about Gelato from its surprising history to how it’ll make you feel to why so many women love it. If Gelato sounds familiar, it’s because I shared how it’s a perfect pairing if you love listening to true crime podcasts. For more on that, head to episode 175.

The wildest part about Gelato’s history is that it almost didn’t happen. It looked like it was a huge expensive mistake, until creator Mario Guzman realized it was actually the happiest accident. As Mario explains, sometimes when you leave a male and a female cannabis plant alone in a room together, magic can happen.
Mario Guzman (03:40):
I had some seeds that I had just popped and one was about six inches tall, and I wanted to know what the sex was. So, a friend of mine told me to put it in a flowering room and give it a few days. And I came back about a week later and it was a male, and there was powder all over the place. And I was like, “What’s this?” And then, I figured out that that was pollen. My whole big room that was at my grandmother’s house in the basement, it got pollinated. So, all my flower that I was looking to sell had seeds in it now. Sinsemilla is basically cannabis flower with no seeds, female plant. And so, a lot like us humans, if you stick a man and a woman in a room and leave them alone for too long, sometimes things tend to happen, and that’s basically what plants do too.
(04:26):
And I put the male in there with all the ladies, and nature decided to take over. So, they had a lot of babies, and those babies happened to be Gelato. Those were the ones that ended up creating magic, I like to say, with creating Gelato. At that time, it was really like lightning struck and everything aligned for a hybrid. So, what I thought was a loss of money turned out to be a huge gain, not just for me financially, but for the whole cannabis community, ended up being a huge blessing. So, it was an accident.

So, let’s get started with all you need to know about Gelato. First, what does it smell and taste like? If you hear the word Gelato and think of deliciously creamy and sweet Italian ice cream, you’re not alone. It’s sweet, earthy, almost chocolatey smell draws you in like an ice cream shop. Gelato’s minty vanilla taste comes from its parent strains, Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. The flavors in strains describe terpenes, which are sometimes called the aromatherapy of cannabis because they create the smell and taste of the weed, and they play a big role in the effects you’ll feel. What does Gelato help with? Just like reaching for a bite of ice cream after a rough day, Gelato can be a great help for stress, anxiety, depression, and it will ease chronic aches and pains. Keep that pint of Ben & Jerry’s in your freezer and Gelato in your stash. They’re both a nice treat to have around.
(06:30):
How will Gelato make me feel? Gelato is not known as a strain that’s going to make you feel super stoned or lock you into your couch. Even if you find a Gelato strain that has a higher THC, over about 20%, the intoxicating effects are more clearheaded than loopy. I tend to get chatty when I feel that mix of relaxed in my body and more creative in my mind. You’ll have energy and what you want to do with it will depend on how much you consume. Try a little, maybe one or two hits of a joint, and it will be more of a just back from a great run feeling, a little sparkly in your mind and body. The more Gelato you have, the more your aches and pains will melt away and your mind will be open to inspiration, fresh ideas will flow. You might want to settle into a lively, wide-ranging conversation with a good friend or tackle that award-winning movie that deserves a little more attention than your average rom-com.
(07:38):
And because of the way Gelato relaxes your body, it can put you in a fun, sexy mood. You’re feeling good about yourself, have a little boost in confidence, which is one of the reasons why it’s a great strain for sex. Speaking of sex, that’s also part of why women love Gelato. It’s legendary for its balanced qualities, but its reputation as a very sexy strain puts it into the must-try category. I looked at some reviews on Leafly, and I like the way these reviewers put it. They say, “There should be another label for strain ratings, raises self-esteem.” And, “This is a euphoric medication that will fix everything and enhance anything.”I think it’s like wearing an outfit you love or walking out of the salon after having your hair done, a little enhancement that helps you feel great about yourself.
(08:44):
What will Gelato inspire? Well, have sex. Seriously, try it out. Remember, our sex experts always say to start with yourself, self-pleasure, essential bath. Get to know your own body and it will make partnered sex that much better. So, no excuse not to try. Or if you’re not in the mood, try dancing, walking in nature, yoga, or another type of exercise you love. You’ll have energy and be present in your body. Great for creating a calm peace of mind that’s open to creative ideas. These ideas could be as simple as making a to-do list or brainstorming an exciting project you’re about to start. Invite your friends over for a movie night or bring some Gelato along to a dinner out and have it as a nice boost instead of a drink or coffee.
(09:41):
So, what makes Gelato worthy of How To Do The Pot’s Essential Strains list? It is a fun strain that helps you feel good in your mind and body. I like to grab some when I see it at a dispensary because I know that no matter what mood I’m in or what I need to do, bringing Gelato along is probably going to help me have a good time. It is one of my favorite consistent all around strains. And its sweet, fruity taste makes it easy to enjoy. So, while these descriptions are typically how you’ll feel after consuming Gelato, please remember that cannabis is a plant. Plants grown in different places will be a little different, and the same goes for you. Weed affects everyone differently. I really recommend starting slow until you know how you want to feel. You didn’t give up on love forever after a middle school heartbreak, right? So, try a new strain, pay attention to how you feel and have fun.
(10:48):
